Maintenance of ski equipment

Mantenimiento de tu material de esquí

The maintenance of ski equipment is one of the most neglected activities by all of us who ski.

We seem to think that those boards on which we glide through the snow and enjoy ourselves are eternal and indestructible.

But it’s not quite like that, our boards require love to make us enjoy. The soles must be well waxed to facilitate sliding, have good edges so that we can guide them easily and we must also verify that the soles do not have deep scratches or holes, since through them water seeps in, leaving humidity inside and deteriorating them.

In Esports Sant Moritz, we have our own workshop and apart from managing the maintenance of our rental skis in the 5 different ranges of skis, we also manage the maintenance of the 5 ranges we offer, we also offer our services to all customers who wish to do the maintenance of their skis and snowboards.

Steps for the maintenance of ski equipment

The complete process of material maintenance is composed of 7 steps which are the ideal ones to follow if we always want to have our material in perfect conditions.

  • STEP 1- Make base
  • STEP 2- Check for scratches, holes and cover with Cofix
  • STEP 3- Leave the base ready
  • STEP 4- The stone to give it structure
  • STEP 5- Making edges
  • STEP 6- Waxing
  • STEP 7- Finishing – removing excess wax with brush and roller

Then, in the following video, our ski expert Lucas explains and shows you in detail the whole process.

Ahhh… and to remind you that in Esports Sant Moritz, we use ecological wax, from km0 that we manufacture in the Principality of Andorra. So, apart from taking care of your equipment, and doing the maintenance in Esports Sant Moritz, you will take care of the Planet a little bit.

How often should maintenance be performed?

The million dollar question!… it depends a lot on the use you make of your equipment, but we could generalize as follows:

Waxing

  • Daily use: every two weeks, especially if snow conditions evolve.
  • Monthly use: A couple of times per season
  • Occasional use: Once per season.

It is important to store waxed skis at the end of the season, as they will be better preserved and the soles will not dry out as much.

Cantos

It will depend a lot on how we ski and how much use we make of them. But unless we are daily users of the material the recommendation would be 1-2 times per season.

In any case, you will appreciate it very easily, because as soon as the skis lose their edges, you will quickly notice that they become more difficult to drive, that you will tend to ski more skidding and not driving – with the relevant feeling of loss of control, safety and cornering speed.

Soles

It is very important that when we detect a scratch or hole in the soles, we proceed to repair it as soon as possible, because as we have mentioned a hole is a source of entry of moisture into the structure of the ski and its consequent deterioration.

It must be said that the closer the scratch or hole is to the edges of the ski, the more delicate and necessary is its repair, since apart from the humidity issue, we run the risk of damaging the edge.

So now you know… do not forget about the maintenance of your ski equipment! If you take care of it, it will make you enjoy twice as much and in a much safer way.
